Overview
Performs a wide range of high level skilled work, independently or as a crew member, related to the operation and maintenance of underground storage fields.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Contacts
- Schedules work assignments to ensure that workforce, equipment, and materials are available to accomplish assigned work.
- Provides work direction to crew members on a daily basis while operating an underground storage field.
- Trains, instructs, and guides crew members in all aspects of their job duties.
- Inspects work of other employees and contractors to ensure that assignments are completed properly and safely.
- Provides general feedback to supervision as required.
- Operates and directs others to operate facilities to achieve and maintain optimum efficiency.
- Troubleshoots gas lift, sucker rod, and/or electric submersible pump systems (ESP), and surface/subsurface safety systems.
- Coordinates and supervises contractors performing sucker rod and ESP work-overs.
- Operates wire line unit.
- Conducts and plots well temperature and pressure surveys.
- Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots, and makes emergency repairs to wire-line unit, pressure and temperature tools, and other well survey equipment.
- Operates and maintains well heads, well head valves, valves and related seals.
- Kills and unloads wells
- Plans, coordinates and analyzes sand and well tests.
- Writes well activity reports, maintains oil inventory security records.
- Assists the Storage Field Engineer with operations and maintenance planning.
Frequent contacts include compressor station and underground storage facility managers, contractors, suppliers, vendors, and staff. Some locations may require public contact. Able to communicate clearly.
Minimum Qualifications
Must successfully pass the Physical Abilities Test. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must pass a pre-employment drug test if a new hire or transferring from a non-safety sensitive job. Requires participation in the Company’s random drug testing program. Must pass a pre-qualification examination. Intermediate computer skills required. Must have previous satisfactory experience as a Transmission Technician or equivalent.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in the underground storage fields, extensive mechanical experience, understanding of basic electricity, electronics, and electronic controls, previous experience in related industries, experience with common word processing and spreadsheet programs.
Other
May be required to work emergency call-outs and be able to work occasional extensive hours. May be required to Job Site Report.
Physical Demand
Heavy - Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 50 pounds with lifting up to approximately 100 pounds as required.
Environmental Conditions
Work is primarily outdoors, occasionally indoors in an office or control room. May be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, extremely high noise levels, rotating and vibrating equipment, rough terrain, occasional work on ladders or high platforms, hydraulic draw works, as well as confined spaces. May be exposed to high pressure gas. May be required to handle hazardous materials, and hazardous waste.
