Overview
Performs a wide range of high level skilled work, independently or as a crew member, related to the operation and maintenance of all types of hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and electronic control instruments and telemetering equipment in the transmission and underground storage system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedules work assignments to ensure that workforce, equipment, and materials are available to accomplish assigned work.
- Provides work direction to crew members on a daily basis
- Trains, instructs, and guides crew members in all aspects of their job duties.
- Inspects work of other employees and contractors to ensure that assignments are completed properly and safely.
- Provides general feedback to supervision as required.
- Operates and directs others to operate facilities to achieve and maintain optimum efficiency.
- Fabricates, installs, repairs, adjusts and maintains instruments which record, indicate, or control temperature, pressure, flow, liquid level, gas quality, rotating equipment, etc.
- Programs, installs, calibrates, and repairs hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, digital, and electronic devices used for automatic control and for telemetric indication and control (i. e. SCADA). Assists with the installation and troubleshooting of data communication systems.
- Performs shop work associated with development, fabrication and testing of new instrumentation equipment. Inspects and operates new equipment installations.
- Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions related to instrumentation and telemetric systems using factory manuals and/or prescribed methods.
- Bypasses station equipment for preventative maintenance or repair and returns it to operation without disrupting flow in the gas system. Manually operates station valves, regulators and control equipment to properly route gas and maintain pipeline pressure within allowable limits. When necessary, obtains approval of appropriate supervision.
- Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and performs repairs at ETS customer meter sites (e. g., UEGs, cogens, large non-core, etc.).
Contacts
- Prepares appropriate records, notifying supervisor of any unusual patterns
.- Works from construction drawings or sketches.
Frequent contacts include ETS customers, Gas Control, pipeline, compressor station, and underground storage facility managers and peers, contractors, suppliers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and staff. Able to communicate clearly. Must effectively contact customers.
Minimum Qualifications
Must successfully pass the Physical Abilities Test. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must pass a pre-employment drug test if a new hire or transferring from a non-safety sensitive job. Requires participation in the Company’s random drug testing program. Must pass a pre-qualification examination. Intermediate computer skills required. Must have 1 year of satisfactory experience in the Transmission Technician classification or equivalent experience in a related industry. Must have satisfactory or higher overall appraisal. Must pass the following ISA Interactive Innovations tests from ITC Courses; Solid-state Theory; Semiconductors and Diodes, Rectifiers and Filters and Transistors, SCRs and Triacs. Digital Instrumentation; Smart Transmitters; Programmable Logic Controllers; Principles of Operation. Must demonstrate understanding of electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, concepts, and theories. Must demonstrate understanding of gas quality devices (I. e., dew point monitors, O2 monitors, H2S monitors, NH3 monitors, etc.).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in all areas of ETS operations, i. .e., pipeline, compressor stations, underground storage fields. Understanding of the electronic control devices (i. e., RTU's, PLC's, Digis, etc.) used by the Company. Understanding of data communications (SCADA) theories and applications. Understanding of CEMS/ACEMS devices and requirements. Understanding of gas chromatographs. Ability to program workstations. Ability to design/install new equipment and complete as built drawings.

May be required to work emergency call-outs and be able to work occasional extensive hours.

Physical Demand
Medium - Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 25 pounds with a lifting up to approximately 50 pounds, as required.
Environmental Conditions
Work is primarily outdoors, occasionally indoors in an office or control room. May be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels, rotating and vibrating equipment, rough terrain, occasional work on ladders or high platforms, as well as confined spaces. May be exposed to high pressure gas. May be required to handle hazardous materials, and hazardous waste.

Operates or uses a variety of hand tools and test equipment such as frequency selective voltmeters, volt-ohm-amp-meters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, gauges, hand-held electronic instruments, desk top/laptop computer.
