Overview

Operates, maintains, inspects, and troubleshoots basic and complex gas compressor, auxiliary, and process equipment at transmission compressor stations and underground storage fields.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Contacts

Frequent contacts include: Gas Control, compressor station and underground storage facility managers. Contacts contractors, suppliers, and vendors. Able to communicate clearly.

Minimum Qualifications

Must successfully pass the Physical Abilities Test. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must pass a pre-employment drug test if a new hire or transferring from a non-safety sensitive job. Requires participation in the Company’s random drug testing program. Intermediate computer skills required. Must have previous satisfactory experience as a Transmission Technician or equivalent. Must pass a pre-qualification examination.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in the Transmission Technician-Station Specialty classification. Extensive experience with internal combustion engines or other mechanical equipment, vocational training in basic electricity and electronics, previous experience in related industries, experience with operating facility/activity-specific software, common word processing and spreadsheet programs.

Other

May be required to work various shifts, on a rotating basis. May be required to work emergency call-outs and be able to work occasional extensive hours.

Physical Demand

Heavy - Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 50 pounds with lifting up to approximately 100 pounds as required. Equipment and materials exceeding 75 pounds are to be maneuvered through leveraging techniques and employees are instructed to work within their optimum carry ability and use lifting devices, carry aids (e. g. hand truck) and/or request assistance.

Environmental Conditions

Work may be indoors in an office or control room, in an engine/equipment room, or outdoors. May be exposed to extremes of climate and temperatures, high noise levels, rotating and vibrating equipment, rough terrain, occasional work on ladders or high platforms, as well as confined spaces. May be exposed to high pressure gas. May be required to handle hazardous materials, and hazardous waste.

Equipment

Operates or uses pipe locator, leak detector, power or hand tools, gauges, hand-held electronic instruments, desk top laptop computer.
